Welcome to Jordan
Wadi Rum
Wadi Rum
Distance by Road: 311 km southwest of Amman - 120 km south of Petra – 68 km north of Aqaba.
Wadi Rum is the most impressive desert scenery anywhere in the word. Tucked away in the South of Jordan is a splendid landscape with massive cliffs, rolling shoulders ofmountains, and pastel colored sands.
Wadi Rum's stunning desert and colorful sandstone mountains were selected as the backdrop for David Lean's 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia, a retelling of British officer T. E. Lawrence's chronicles of the Great Arab Revolt of 1917-18 against the Turkish Empire.
Carvings displayed on the wadi's rocks and inside many caves confirm that the area was of one of the earliest inhabited sites in Jordan and a holy place during the Nabatean civilization.

The Tour: (Check Hiking Trails)
Walking through the wadi, riding astride a camel or touring the area by 4WD is such an exhilarating experience. Serious climbers who prefer a more adventurous experience can undertake the challenge of climbing the 1750 meters high mountain of Jabal Rum, Jordan's highest mountain peak.
For those seeking a spiritual experience; the mystical magic of the vast landscape, the serene desert and colorful sandstone mountains can further deepen the experience at all levels; body, mind and spirit. It’s the ultimate relaxing experience of any meditators’ journey.
Particularly popular are safari trips that end with a traditional Bedouin dinner under the stars followed by an overnight in a Bedouin camp - a perfect way to end a visit to Wadi Rum.
Accommodations
There are no hotels in Wadi Rum. Many good standard traditional Bedouin camps can be found in Wadi Rum either next to the Resthouse or into the heart of the desert. They provide showers and toilets facilities.
